'Big Bang Theory': 8 great moments from season 6

"The Big Bang Theory" delivers on the chuckles, whether they're from an always-present laugh track or genuine guffaws from viewers. But even better, CBS' megahit offers more than just good times.

From the further development of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah Fowler's (Mayim Bialik) non-physical romance to Howard's (Simon Helberg) spot-on impersonations and Raj's (Kunal Nayyar) love for pooch Cinnamon, the show has delivered great moments in the development of its characters, along, of course, with the funny this season.

As season six winds down, we take a look at some of its best scenes of the year, in pictures.

    Battle of the sexes -

Game night for the couples turned into a battle of the sexes on "The Re-Entry Minimization." Thanks to Sheldon (Jim Parsons) making everything more difficult than it needed it to be, Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) easily beat the boys, including in this photo, where Sheldon and Penny play spin the lightsaber and then rush to solve a math problem.

A touch of the sweet -

Poor Howard (Simon Helberg). After years of getting dissed by his pals with higher degrees, he finally becomes an astronaut. But when he comes home from his big adventure, no one wants to hear about it -- maybe because he can't talk about anything else in the episode "The Holographic Excitation."

While complaining about not being able to brag about his one success (while dressed as a Smurf for Halloween, of course), wife Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) reminds him that she married plain old Howard, not astronaut Howard. Awww!

    Flash mob! -

OK, this didn't exactly happen on the show, but while filming the episode "The 43 Peculiarity," the cast and crew surprised the studio audience with a flash mob that kicked off with Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." Watch it!

    Being a good boyfriend -

What's this? Girlfriend Amy is sick with the flu and Sheldon acknowledges it's his duty to care for her? Where's the "bazinga"?!

Amy, who has been hungering for Sheldon's touch, finds much of what he does to ease her discomfort a bit arousing. (VapoRub on the chest! How steamy!) Even after she gets better, she fakes being sick to get his attention -- until he discovers her ruse. Then it was time for some corporal punishment in the form of a spanking -- which Amy truly enjoyed.

    Make it so! -

The guys upped their level of geekiness in the episode "The Bakersfield Expedition." Dressed in their best "Star Trek: The Next Generation" costumes for a comic book convention, they stop by Fasquez Rocks Park, where the show used to film, to take some photos.

They had their own adventure of sorts when car thieves jacked their vehicle, leaving the guys stranded on "an alien planet."

    Our eyes! Our eyes! -

Dear lord, Raj! We get it! Being ditched by your date -- while *on* said date -- really sucks.

The unlucky-in-love guy took the abandonment pretty hard in "The Monster Isolation," vowing never to leave his apartment again, and gorging himself on comfort foods that included lobster (hey, he is quite wealthy!) and pizza.

    Awkward! -

Oh, Sheldon. In "The Tenure Turbulence," Sheldon, Raj and Leonard all vie for a newly opened tenure position at Caltech by impressing Ms. Davis (Regina King) in HR. Unfortunately, for Sheldon, she's quite familiar with the sexual harassment complaint from earlier in the season. And to curry favor from her, he tries to be relatable -- by gifting her with the "Roots" DVD set, and later gives her what he thinks is a cool handshake.

    Dungeons & Dragons & Love -

After the girls' trip to Vegas falls through, they join in on a game of Dungeons & Dragons with the guys in "The Love Spell Potential" that quickly goes from hilarious to sad to sweet.

First-time Dungeon Master Howard impresses Sheldon with his amazing impersonations (an ancient tree sounds like Nic Cage!), but when the gang tries to have Sheldon and Amy's characters "do it" in the game since they've never done it in real life, Amy storms out, thinking that their friends are mocking their non-physical relationship.

To make her feel better, Sheldon gives Amy's character the intimacy she wants by rolling the D&D dice to determine the action she gets.
