Betty White: Chris Rock would probably play me onscreen
At 92, Betty White is still "Golden." The star of such shows as "The Golden Girls," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Hot in Cleveland" graced one of Reddit.com's famed Ask Me Anything online question-and-answer sessions on Monday, and proved that as she's just as sassy as the characters she's played.
When asked who should play her in the inevitable Betty White biopic, White had a few varied thoughts. "I would love it if it were Meryl Streep or Julie Andrews," she said, "But they would probably cast someone like Chris Rock."
At least one reader found that idea intriguing, writing in response, "I ... would watch Chris Rock portray Betty White. I don't know what I'd expect, but I would definitely check it out."
White's well-known love for animals also shone through. If she wasn't an actress, she said she'd have liked to have been a zookeeper, and she was too torn to choose a favorite animal. "Oh, that's asking somebody with 9 children which is their favorite!" she said. "Anything with a leg on each corner."
She also named a reader's band, ("Rubber. ... Then you could be called Rubber Band."), reminisced about past shows and favorite smells ("new puppies, pine trees and new kittens"), and credited her longevity to "good genes" from her parents.
White also recalled a royal moment, when she and the rest of the "Golden Girls" cast were asked to perform live for big fan Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and Princess Anne in 1988.
"It was very exciting," White said. "The Queen was lovely. We were told not to address her unless we were addressed. She was up in a box and she came down on stage after with Princess Anne. She said 'lovely, pretty girls.' I said, 'and not bad (bodies),' and she said, 'oh, no, not bad bodies!'"
