'Battleship's' Liam Neeson has sinking feeling about 60th birthday

Liam Neeson may have been the veteran actor on the set of "Battleship," but that doesn't mean he wasn't keeping an eye out for his fellow performers, including Rihanna. Liam Neeson may have been the veteran actor on the set of "Battleship," but that doesn't mean he wasn't keeping an eye out for his fellow performers, including Rihanna. The Irish actor visited with TODAY's Matt Lauer Monday and appeared flattered that the young singer (and his co-star) had nothing but praise for him.

"She got my check," he demurred in a quiet, gentle voice. "She's a very, very talented, beautiful young girl.... She's the real deal."

Of course, since he's turning 60 -- a fact Neeson wasn't as thrilled to have mentioned when Lauer brought it up -- it doesn't hurt. "Just rub it in!" he laughed to Lauer, and said that his big upcoming day (June 7) does bother him.

"It does," he admitted. "I think when I'm 60 and a day it'll be all right. Just getting through it. My kids want me to have a party, and some friends want to have a party, and I'm saying look, I think I'll just stay home, watch TV, open a bottle of wine."

"Battleship" opens in theaters on May 18.
