Contestants on "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" are usually surrounded with carefully-orchestrated, luxurious dates. But Sean Lowe, who gave his final rose to Catherine Giudici on the show's 17th season finale, then married her last year, says they never cared much for all of those high-class outings.

"When we were on the show and we were doing all these exotic fantasy dates, we were saying, 'If only we could be in our sweatpants, watching movies,'" he said when the pair visited TODAY Wednesday to promote his new book, "For the Right Reasons."

"And that's exactly what we do," he added. "When we're at home, we're watching movies on the couch and our dogs are by our side. And that's our fantasy suite, right there."

Don't get them wrong: Their "Bachelor" experiences were actually quite positive — so much so that one of Giudici's bridesmaids was fellow contestant Lesley.

And they've truly made a great match; in a personalized version of "The Newlywed Game" orchestrated by Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, they got nearly every one of the questions about each other right!

Marriage, said Lowe, is "what we thought [it would be] and a whole lot more. We've had an incredible first year. I mean, she's my best friend."

"For the Right Reasons: America's Favorite Bachelor on Faith, Love, Marriage and Why Nice Guys Finish First" is now available on Amazon and in bookstores.
