Anne Hathaway 'shocked' by backlash, comes out a 'more loving person'

Anne Hathaway was "shocked" and "embarrassed" by the backlash that embroiled her celebrity nearly two years ago, but in the new Harper's Bazaar, the Oscar winner said she has "grown from it." Anne Hathaway was "shocked" and "embarrassed" by the backlash that embroiled her celebrity nearly two years ago, but in the new Harper's Bazaar, the Oscar winner said she has "grown from it."

"What are we supposed to do — pretend like it didn't happen?" Hathaway was quoted by the magazine as saying over the summer. "People treated me a certain way. But I've grown from it. This whole thing has made me a way more compassionate and loving person. And I don't feel sorry for myself."

The "whole thing" Hathaway, 31, was referring to was the negative reaction she received during awards season in early 2013 as she was collecting prizes for her role as Fantine in "Les Miserables." A couple awkward acceptance speeches, a poorly received Oscars hosting gig and quickly, despite winning an Academy Award, Hathaway's phone stopped ringing.

She's now gotten back to the business of being a leading lady, thanks to a role in the upcoming thriller "Interstellar," from director Christopher Nolan, who last called on her to play Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises." Hitching her star in a sci-flick to the ever-hot Matthew McConaughey isn't a bad move either.

For her photo spread in Harper's, Hathaway is all about the love again. She blows a kiss from the cover, wears nothing but a bejeweled "I Love You" heart in another shot, and in a third, arrows on a black top find their way toward a heart on her chest.

The looks come from a variety of high-end designers, including Giorgio Armani Prive, Cartier, Versace, Valentino, Maison Martin Margiela, Ralph Lauren Collection, Balmain, Schiaparelli Haute Couture, Altuzarra, and more.

But Hathaway admits, “I am getting more daring now — I’ll wear my mom jeans in public that haven’t been tailored ‘just so’ yet, just because they feel good.

"For a long time I was afraid of the harsh things people would say about me, but I might as well be happy."
