The world’s most notorious fictional newscaster announced some news of his own on Tuesday: Ron Burgundy is writing a memoir.
Burgundy, the character played by Will Ferrell in the 2004 comedy "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and the upcoming sequel, "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," revealed that he is penning a tell-all book to hit shelves this fall.
The book, titled "Let Me Off at the Top! My Classy Life and Other Musings," will include stories from Burgundy's life as San Diego’s top-rated new anchor, and will be released by Crown Archetype, an imprint of Random House’s Crown Publishing Group, on November 19, 2013.
According to the tongue-in-cheek press release, the book will “share never-before-told stories of his childhood and the events that led him to choose a career in the news business. He will offer a rare glimpse behind the camera into the real life of a man many consider to be our greatest living news anchor.”
The release also provided this quote from "Burgundy" himself:
“I don’t know if it’s the greatest autobiography ever written. I’m too close to the work," he said, according to the release. "I will tell you this much: the first time I sat down and read this thing...I cried like a goddamn baby, and you can take that to the bank!”
Mauro DiPreta, Vice President and Editor in Chief at Crown Archetype, also shared his excitement for the memoir in the press release. “The list of legendary American broadcast news journalists is short: Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, and, of course, Ron Burgundy,” he writes. “The printed page will allow Ron to tell his story in a much more intimate way. Let Me Off at the Top! will be a classic for years to come.”
The lovably narcissistic Ron Burgundy has remained one of Ferrell’s most popular characters, thanks to "Anchorman"’s bevy of quotable lines and R-rated scenarios. The film, as well as its highly anticipated sequel, were directed by longtime Ferrell collaborator, and Funny Or Die co-founder, Adam McKay.
While the memoir may be an obvious stunt to build buzz for the "Anchorman" sequel, out December 20, it is unclear whether or not Ferrell or McKay will actually write the book themselves. But it is far from the only Anchorman related tie-in this fall: The Newseum in Washington D.C. will also celebrate the film with an exhibit of props, costumes and footage starting November 14.
