LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "American Idiot," the Broadway musical based on punk band Green Day's concept album of the same name, will close on April 24, its producers said Thursday.
Ticket sales plummeted to about $395,000 from $1.3 million when the band's front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, stepped down from his lead role as St. Jimmy earlier this month.
Armstrong will reprise his role beginning April 5 for the show's final three weeks. His return marks the one-year anniversary of "American Idiot." Its Broadway run will have consisted of 421 performances and 27 previews. The first national tour launches this fall.
The show garnered two Tony awards and a Grammy, among other honors.
