Ambush Makeover gives mom first haircut since 6th grade
Joyce Slawson got a twofer with her Ambush Makeover on Thursday: Not only did the 58-year-old Wisconsin resident get her first haircut since 6th grade, but she also donated her locks to a charity for cancer victims.
Her dramatic makeover took off about a foot of her hair, and took years off her face.
“You look fantastic – and 20 years younger!” her daughter exclaimed.
Slawson agreed. “Oh my god, I look like you, honey!” she said after seeing her transformed self for the first time.
TODAY's hairstylist to the stars Louis Licari shaped Slawson’s locks into a long bob and lightened her blonde hair in the front, while slightly darkening her hue in the back. TODAY contributor Jill Martin then dressed her in black jeans and a matching leather jacket.

The other Ambush Makeover recipient, Sandy Wolner, caught the eye of producers because of a sign her husband Steve carried: “Please help me! I’ve been doing my wife’s hair for 15 years!”
Wolner, 65, started having her husband, Steve, trim and color her hair because she wasn’t happy with what salons could do with it.
But that changed with Licari’s makeover. He gave some depth to the color of her strawberry blonde hair and added some soft, sideswept bangs.
“You’re out of a job, honey!” Slawson said after getting her first look at the new ’do.
