Step aside, "Battlefield Earth." Will and Jaden Smith's science-fiction adventure "After Earth" has joined you on a legendarily awful movie list.

Fans of bad-movie experts Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett of Rifftrax.com named the Smith family film the worst movie of 2013 in poll results released Friday exclusively to TODAY.

Wrote the Riffers: "In 2000, John Travolta laid down the challenge: 'You will never, EVER make a big budget sci-fi vanity project with a two-word title, the second word being "Earth," as colossally awful as the one I have made.' Thirteen years later Will Smith beat his challenge."

More than 40,000 Rifftrax fans voted for "After Earth," which was just one of many 2013 films set on or near a post-apocalyptic Earth, and featured the Smiths playing a father and son named Cypher and Kitai Raige.

In second place was the TV movie "Sharknado," which pulled in only about half as many votes as "After Earth."

"Admit it, when you saw the title you assumed it was a tender coming of age story set in Belgium in 1943 about a young Protestant boy who falls in love with a Jewish girl," the Riffers wrote. "But, no. It’s about a tornado filled with sharks."

"Grown Ups 2," "Movie 43," "Iron Man 3," "Scary Movie 5," "A Good Day to Die Hard," "R.I.P.D.," "Man of Steel" and "Lone Ranger" rounded out the top 10.

Rifftrax also polled fans about the worst 20 movies of all time, and the winner was a repeat offender. The entire "Twilight" series took the worst-movie-ever crown for the second year in a row.

"It’s impossible to choose one 'Twilight' movie as the worst because it’s impossible to tell one 'Twilight' movie apart from the next," the Riffers wrote. "A bored Hot Topic employee’s daydream stretched across five films, it’s a long slog but at least the series pays off with a big climactic action sequence -- sorry, that should say credits sequence, the series pays off with a big credits sequence, letting you know you are finally free to go and struggle to ever find happiness in your life again."

Rifftrax offers humorous commentaries for almost all of the films on both lists, making the pain of watching them a lot easier to bear.

And it could have been worse: "After Earth" was reportedly planned as part of a trilogy.
