Nobody is who they seem to be in the upcoming film "2 Guns." (Hint: There's a lot of undercover police action going on.) And that kind of switch up is a pleasure for stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, both of whom say they're tickled to be playing in the comedy field.

"I was coming off of doing the movie 'Flight,' and I was looking to do something lighter," explained Washington to TODAY's Savannah Guthrie on Monday as he sat next to Wahlberg on the plaza. But, he added, comedy is a little harder than drama "because you don't know if you're funny, and the crew has to be quiet. They can't really respond!"

Later on, Edward James Olmos sat down with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford and also emphasized the funny even though he's playing the bad guy in the movie. "It's like 'Lethal Weapon,' " he noted. "I play the drug dealer and I'm the best guy in the movie."

Wahlberg noted that the funny parts of the gritty action film really were the draw for both him and Washington. "That's really why we wanted to do it," he said. "This has dramatic elements to it, as well as the action and the comedy is was a nice change of pace for us."

"2 Guns" opens in theaters on Aug. 2.
