Skinny the cat might not quite be living up to his name yet, but the overweight tabby is working on shedding the pounds.
The stray cat, found two months ago in Texas, has lost four pounds to now weigh in at 37 pounds. That still makes him too big to be adopted, but it means he is on the road to better health. Dallas veterinarian Brittney Barton told NBC Dallas affiliate KXAS that the 5-year-old orange tabby has been on a special diet and exercising at regularly in an attempt to get down to the 30-pound mark he most likely needs in order to be safely adopted.
Shelter officials at the East Lake Pet Orphanage dubbed the cat "Skinny'' after it was found Sept. 13 weighing in a 41 pounds, the average size of a 4-year-old child. Originally thought to be a female, Skinny turned out to be a neutered male. -- Scott Stump
