Modern family: A yorkshire terrier named Bridget tends to kittens at the Humane Society of Utah on April 27.

Just in time for Mother's Day, this heartwarming story of a mom's love transcending species lines caught our eye today.

According to Deseret News, the story starts out rather sad. At the end of April, a 10-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Bridget gave birth to two puppies, but neither survived. An employee at the Humane Society of Utah’s Foster Care Department, where Bridget resides, then placed a litter of five kittens with the dog, and a happy ending began!

They may not look alike, but you can just feel the love between these kittens and their new mom!

Bridget’s maternal instincts kicked in, and soon the Yorkie was acting as a surrogate mother to the little felines. She is now nurturing and nursing the kittens, and everyone is doing well, according to the Humane Society. Talk about a modern family!
