Potty-training a puppy can leave owners tired, frustrated and impatient.

For Detroit Lions tight end Joseph Fauria, teaching his 3-month-old Pomeranian/Husky mix Lil’ Rufio to go to the bathroom outside left the professional football player with a sprained ankle.

“He was about to pee and I was like, ‘Come here you little nugget,” Fauria told ESPN in the Lions' locker room on Monday. “I wasn’t running but I was chasing him downstairs and I just misstepped and I reached with my left foot and I just didn’t end up well.” No word on if Lil’ Rufio made it outside to take care of his business or not.

Because of Lil’ Rufio’s quick feet, Fauria sat out of Sunday night’s Lions’ game against the New York Jets. He let his Twitter followers know that he’s working hard to get back out on the field — and keeping Lil’ Rufio safe from any fans angry at the furball behind the injury.

Good luck to Fauria with the ankle — and with the potty training.
