Western lowland gorilla mother Bana holds her new baby at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago on Nov. 18.

Update Nov. 28:

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that trainers discovered the 9-day-old infant dead in her mother's arms. A preliminary necropsy showed the cause of death to be blunt force head trauma or a skull injury, according to Megan Ross, the zoo's vice president of animal care.

Zoo officials introduced the new baby gorilla to the public on Nov. 18. She is the first Western lowland gorilla born at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo since 2005.

The baby gorilla doesn't have a name yet. Her mother is 15-year-old Bana, who gave birth for the first time. Her father is Kwan, a 22-year-old silverback gorilla.
