'That's not fair': When do you let your kids in on the hard truths of life?

“That’s not fair!” These words have been uttered on virtually every playground at one time or another. Whether a child doesn’t get a trophy at the T-ball banquet or they don’t get into their dream college, often times these words are what we come back to.

From a young age we’re taught how to play fair…but as we grow up, we learn that things don’t always go our way, everything isn’t always balanced and that life isn't always so kind.

Should we teach our kids this life lesson at an early age to spare them from disappointment later in life?
