Kathie Lee Gifford finished her first week back at TODAY on Friday since the death of her husband, Frank, with a touching story of how she returned to work with the sweet support of their children.

When Kathie Lee resumed her co-anchor duties on Monday, she found her son, Cody, and daughter, Cassidy, waiting in the studio for her.

“They were sitting in the kitchen waiting for me,” Kathie Lee recalled Friday. “I said, ‘What are you guys doing up?’ They said, ‘We’re going to go in with you, Mom.’”

The scenario came up as Kathie Lee reminisced about her husband with co-host Hoda Kotb and special guest Regis Philbin. Frank Gifford, the former New York Giants superstar, died of natural causes on Aug. 9.

Hoda said seeing Cody and Cassidy support their mother made for a sweet sight.

“Cody was standing, and he was just watching. He didn’t want to be on. He just had his arms folded, watching his mom to make sure she was okay,” she said. “It was beautiful. It was really beautiful.”

Regis added: "They're great kids."
