With Halloween quickly approaching, haunted house season is in full effect — which is why TODAY's own Dylan Dreyer decided to check out first hand what it's like to be an actor in one of the scariest haunted houses in the U.S., "The Edge of Hell." in Kansas City, Missouri.

Every year, hundreds of people audition for a spot in the annual production, which is one of four haunted houses in Kansas City, each with a different theme. The same parent company, America Haunts, runs haunted houses in dozens of cities throughout the U.S.

"You get this thrill when you truly scare someone," Katie Ramel, a school teacher who auditioned for her 17th season with the haunted house, told Dylan.

With more than an hour of makeup, Dylan got her chance to scare the house's thrill-seeking visitors.

"It was exhausting, but it was fun to be on the other side!" Dyaln said.
