For two-year-old Deacon Ross, the hardest part of moving to a new house was saying goodbye to his best friend — his family’s garbage man, O-Dee. So Deacon’s mom created a special party to help her son say goodbye.

“I think that this is Deacon’s first friend — that he really understands what friendship is,” Deacon’s mom told USA Today in a recent video.

According to the report, Deacon’s mom is pregnant, and with their family expanding, the Rosses decided to move to a new house, outside of O-Dee’s garbage route.

In the video, Deacon can be seen waiting with excitement for the sound of O-Dee’s garbage truck. As the truck arrives to pick up the family's recycling, Deacon shouts: “Him coming! O-Dee!”

In a touching scene, Deacon presents O-Dee with a goodbye gift: a personalized mug, chocolate chip cookies and candy, while his mom tells O-Dee, “You’re special to us.”

“I don’t think that he really understands that this could be the last time he sees O-Dee,” said Deacon’s mom of the celebration. “I was just teary the whole time and I’m just trying to relish the moment.”

The USA Today story also shares Deacon’s first order of business when he becomes a big brother — he wants to name his sibling O-Dee.
