This may be the greatest combo since chocolate and peanut butter...
Peanut butter and chocolate. Oreos and milk. Chips and salsa. In a long history of inspired food combinations it really was only a matter of time before someone came up with the ultimate in kid cuisine: macaroni and cheese pizza.
Yep, it’s a thing.
And, if the new commercial from Annie’s Homegrown touting the brilliant creation has any influence over the dish’s forthcoming popularity, it’s gonna be a hit.
The ad takes a cue from the famous Stanford marshmallow test, a 1960s experiment that tempted preschoolers with a marshmallow, telling them they could go ahead and eat the treat, but, if they waited 15 minutes, they’d be rewarded with a second marshmallow. The researchers found that although most of the kiddos said they’d wait out the clock, some couldn’t resist the sticky sweet’s allure for even a minute or two.
In the new twist, kids were taped via hidden camera while sitting at a table set with options of Annie’s Macaroni and Cheese or Annie’s Pizza. They’re told they can choose one or the other now, or wait for Annie’s Macaroni and Cheese Pizza. Some gutted it out, others reached straight for the pie or the pasta, one boy dipped his finger in each dish and licked. The reward for holding out for 10 long minutes? Only a kid’s version of heaven on a plate.
Now, can we get a few marshmallows for dessert?
