Bath time is a fantastic opportunity to bond with your baby and teach all kinds of important skills. Additionally, making bath time part of your baby’s 3-step bedtime routine is a proven way to help your baby sleep better through the night.

But it’s not just your baby who gets the benefits. Studies showed that having bath time as part of a specific 3-step nightly routine made moms feel less fatigued and anxious, and they had a better night’s sleep too!

Yet having your baby enjoy bath time (and bedtime) can be a challenge. Here are five ways to make bath time more fun for both you and your baby.

1. Bubbles! You can’t go wrong with bubbles; your baby (and you) will love to watch them float and feel them pop. Add lots of them with JOHNSON'S® Baby BEDTIME® Bubble Bath & Wash: It combines tons of bubbles with NATURALCALM® essences, which release soothing aromas. The NO MORE TEARS® Formula is gentle on your baby’s eyes and skin, so bath time bubble fun won’t be interrupted by skin or eye irritation.

2. Songs: “Splish Splash,” “Rubber Ducky” – any song will do. Singing to your baby helps expand language skills, teaches about rhythm, and can help soothe and relax. Your baby will enjoy hearing your voice, so start singing! Even if your pitch isn’t perfect, your baby will love it.

3. Toys (and more toys)! Toys are amazing for building your baby’s skills. When a toy splashes in the water, your baby learns cause and effect. Rubber ducks and other creatures encourage imaginative play, while letters and numbers introduce the ABCs and 1-2-3s.

4. Art Time: Boost baby’s creative expression and motor skills with bath time finger paints. If baby is able to hold them, bathtub crayons (which easily wash away) are wonderful. Your baby will have so much fun painting a masterpiece, they won’t even notice you’re washing their hair!

5. Talk to your baby: Identifying which body parts you’re cleaning will help baby learn. Tell your baby what happens when you drop the ducky – it floats! Also, help boost baby’s imagination (and your own) by telling stories – baby is the captain of a ship! Talking to your baby and creating stories will help expand vocabulary and make each bath time a unique and fun experience.

JOHNSON’S® Baby Bath products and additional bath time toys are available at Walmart. More bath time information can be found here.

A quick note: Part of keeping bath time fun is making sure your baby is safe. Never leave your baby unattended, not even for a minute, even in a baby seat. So, make sure you have everything you need for the bath beforehand, let the phone ring to voicemail…and have fun
