TODAY's Takeaway: Matt and Meredith preview Sochi, Streisand talks heart health

1. Meredith joined Matt in Sochi Friday morning to preview the “truly mind-boggling” Opening Ceremony (that airs tonight on NBC!).

"There are a few little kinks, but it is so ambitious that if they pull it off, it’s going to be fantastic,'' Meredith predicted.

The rest of the anchors are off to meet Matt and Meredith today, and New York bid them farewell with a whirl of a sendoff.

2. To raise awareness in the fight against heart disease in women, the ladies of TODAY wore red outfits and asked viewers to join in using #GoRedTODAY.

Actress, musician and legend Barbra Streisand, who’s also a philanthropist concerned about women’s health issues, told Natalie why raising awareness about heart disease is so personal to her.

Video: The singer sits down with TODAY’s Natalie Morales to discuss how she’s speaking up for millions of women affected by heart disease. “For me it’s about gender inequality,” she says, adding that research has been focused on men.

3. Jessica Menkhausen and Derek Manion, who underwent IVF as part of our #BornTODAY series, found out the gender of their baby — another emotional milestone for the couple.
