TODAY's Takeaway: Hosts, stars wow at Globes, Gates responds to critics

1. It was a night of snags, swearing and singing at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards — and TODAY was there for it all! Matt, Savannah, Al, Carson and Tamron got a chance to chat with Hollywood’s biggest celebrities at every point in the night, from the arrivals to the after-parties. Did you miss a minute? Video: The star-studded comedy took home an award for best comedic film, best actress for Amy Adams and best supporting actress for Jennifer Lawrence. Other big winners included, “12 years A Slave” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

2. Fans followed along on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TODAY.com, choosing the best dressed actors on the red carpet (including Jennifer Lawrence, whose Dior dress inspired some wonderful memes).

3. Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates isn’t surprised by the controversy that’s erupted over his memoir, but he is disappointed.

“The book has sort of been hijacked by people along the political spectrum to serve their own purposes, taking quotes out of context,” he told Matt.

4. Maria Shriver introduced #DoingItAll, a special series that spotlights the struggles women face when trying to juggle multiple roles.  

This morning she profiled women on the poverty line who are trying to balance work and family.
