Randy Travis remains in critical condition, did not have surgery

Grammy-winning country singer Randy Travis remains in critical condition, but has not undergone heart surgery, representatives of the musician said Tuesday.

The singer is a country music legend who has extended his reach to film and television.

Numerous media outlets reported a statement from Travis' sister-in-law, Teresa Traywick, in which she said the family had been told the singer did have surgery, but representatives say those reports were false.

"We are very thankful to the fans for their love and support during this time," Travis' representatives said.

The singer was admitted to a Dallas hospital Sunday and is being treated for viral cardiomyopathy, an infection of the heart muscle. He "underwent placement of an IMPELLA peripheral left ventricular assist device for stabilization prior to transferring hospitals," the statement said.

Other country stars sent out thoughts to Travis using Twitter. Carrie Underwood wrote, "Thinking about my friend, @randytravis, tonight. Hope he gets better soon..."

The country star has won multiple Grammys, Country Music Awards and other honors, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has also appeared on numerous television shows and in movies.
