Public reaction to Paula Deen's TODAY interview is mixed

Video: The TV cook and restaurateur tearfully opens up to TODAY’s Matt Lauer about the recent controversy surrounding a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former employee, saying the using the N-word is “just not a part” of who she is and that despite the fallout, she is glad she didn’t lie under oath.

In an emotional interview Wednesday, Paula Deen spoke to Matt Lauer about the recent controversy surrounding her that originated with a discrimination lawsuit filed against her and her brother by a former employee. The famous TV cook and restaurateur insisted she is not a racist and that "everyone should be treated equal."

Despite her tears and pleas, the public's reaction was not entirely forgiving. Some did accept Deen's remorse, writing on Twitter that they were inclined to "give her a break." Others, however, claimed she showed a "poor defense," and that they "wanted to feel sorry for her but just couldn't."
