Prince Harry, David Beckham honor Queen in special tribute

The prince and the soccer legend were special guests of Queen Elizabeth at a Buckingham Palace event honoring young leaders.

Soccer star David Beckham joined Prince Harry in helping Queen Elizabeth honor dozens of young leaders at a special event at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

"Just being here, it gives me goose bumps just driving through the gate," Beckham told reporters. "I've been here a couple of times now, and every time it is very special.”

He also described how he talked up his visit to his 4-year-old daughter.

"After the school pick up today I was talking to Harper and I was like 'I'm going to see the queen.' She was like, 'okay but do you think she will be drinking tea.' So she was very inquisitive," he said. "I am so proud to be here."

The soccer legend was a special guest at an event honoring exceptional achievement by 60 young leaders from across the British Commonwealth.

Beckham was joined by Prince Harry, who thanked the group for providing inspiration to their peers and encouraging them to “achieve even greater things in the future.”

He also spoke about how one of his own inspirations, his grandmother, has served as a role model.

"The Queen, who assumed the challenge of leadership at such a young age, has shown us all the importance of selfless commitment and service,” he said. “She is the example I aspire to and the standard by which I will judge my contribution."
