First he saved her life, then he captured her heart.

Florida paramedic Cameron Hill surprised girlfriend Melissa Dohme by proposing to her on bended knee this week on the pitchers mound at a Tampa Bay Rays game.

Dohme had just walked out on the field to throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch. Hill jogged out moments later to hand her the ball. It had a special message for her: “Will you marry me?”

How could Dohme say anything but yes to the man she considers her hero?

Three years earlier, after a former boyfriend stabbed Dohme 32 times and left her for dead, Hill was one of the first responders to arrive at the scene.

“By a miracle I am still here,” Dohme told NBC affiliate WFLA in 2013.

She was taken by helicopter to a hospital, but the two met again months later when Dohme was reunited with her rescuers.

The rest is history.

"When I look back on that night, I can't think of it as all bad anymore because I met Cameron," Dohme told the Tampa Bay Times in 2013. "He's the one I've been waiting for. My fairy tale."
