She has already offered her endorsement for President Obama, and now Betty White’s fans want her to offer him an introduction.
Fans of the 90-year-old actress and comedian have flocked to a petition on Change.org and a Facebook page asking for White to introduce Obama before his speech on Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention. The online petition had more than 8,600 signatures by Tuesday afternoon, and the Facebook page titled “Bring Betty White to the DNC” had more than 30,000 likes.
“Clint Eastwood, the Republican's 'mystery guest' at the RNC, gave a bad name to older Americans everywhere with his absurd and awkward-to-watch introduction of Governor Romney,’’ the Change.org petition reads. “Governor Romney can have Clint Eastwood and his improvisational skills because President Obama has the one and only Betty White!”
Online petitions have worked in the past when it comes to appearances by White. In 2010, White hosted “Saturday Night Live’’ after a push on Facebook for her to be on the show went viral.
White endorsed Obama in May, telling the Associated Press that she “very, very much favors’’ him. In January, Obama recorded a special message for her 90th birthday, joking that he needed to see her birth certificate to verify her age. White also took a tour of the White House in June.
