When "The Office" wrapped up in May, we said goodbye to characters and stars we had grown attached to over nine seasons. But what if different actors had filled the roles of Michael, Dwight, Jim and others?
A newly released video shows some of the auditions for the show's leading roles, and the actors trying out turned out to be no slouches themselves.
The clip opens with Seth Rogen reading for the part of Dwight Schrute, which eventually went to Rainn Wilson. Wilson will always be our No. 1 beet farmer. But Rogen himself didn't fare too poorly, starring over the last several years in films such as "Knocked Up," "Pineapple Express" and "50/50."
Actor Bob Odenkirk reads for the Michael Scott role, and as much as we loved Steve Carell, we're intrigued by the prospect of what could have been with Odenkirk, maybe because we love him so much as Saul on "Breaking Bad."
Eric Stonestreet is great on "Modern Family," and no doubt he would have been hilarious as Kevin Malone, but Brian Baumgartner nailed that big doofus perfectly.
The final three auditions show actress Kathryn Hahn (reading for Pam Halpert) and John Cho and Adam Scott (reading for Jim Halpert). We like the idea of Scott best here, but we got to like him even more on "Parks & Recreation." We're perfectly happy that Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski will always be our Pam and Jim.
The final season of "The Office" will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on Sept. 3.
