James Spader!

NBC announced Wednesday that the Emmy winner will be joining the cast as a regular. "James will reprise his role as Robert California, this uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior," said Executive Producer Paul Lieberstein in a statement.

As for how Mr. California becomes the boss of Dunder Mifflin, Lieberstein explained, "He'll have been hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself promoted. Within days, he took over the company." California will be the CEO of Sabre, the parent company of Dunder Mifflin.

Spader was one of several applicants on the show's season finale up for the open cast member slot left by Steve Carell's departure. Will Arnett, Warren Buffett, Ray Romano, Ricky Gervais and Jim Carrey all interviewed. (Check out the clips.)
