When the first lady of the United States has a midlife crisis, she can’t exactly buy expensive toys or jump out of airplanes like the rest of us. But what she can do is get an attention-grabbing haircut.

"This is my midlife crisis, the bangs. I couldn't get a sports car,” Michelle Obama joked during an interview with Rachael Ray for the talk-show host’s syndicated series. “They won't let me bungee-jump. So instead, I cut my bangs."

The first lady revealed her new do via Twitter on her 49th birthday last month, just days before celebrating her husband’s second inauguration.

In an interview conducted via Skype and scheduled to air Wednesday on the show "Rachael Ray," Mrs. Obama also discussed Oscar nominees and potential winners at this Sunday’s Academy Awards. Although she recently gushed about “Beasts of the Southern Wild” at a White House event featuring 9-year-old star and Best Actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis, the first lady said she also loved “Argo” and “Lincoln.”

"This has been a great year in movies, so I don't think we can have a loser," she said.
