Meet man behind 'Ridiculously Photogenic Football Player' meme

Oct. 25, 2013 at 10:06 AM ET

As a running back for Notre Dame, Cam McDaniel is kind of a big deal.

But this week, his celebrity rose to new heights: He became the Ridiculously Photogenic Football Player.

Despite being in the heat of a nationally-televised football game against USC, Notre Dame running back Cam McDaniel was ready for his close-up, which quickly made him the online meme, "Ridiculously Photogenic Football Player."

McDaniel’s helmet came off during a run against USC last weekend, and the moment was caught on camera. Impossibly, McDaniel's hair was perfectly tousled, his stare was smoldering, his face locked in a Zoolander-esque smirk even as tacklers tried to tear him to the ground.

“As far I know, it’s a real photo,’’ McDaniel told TODAY from the Orange Room on Friday. “I received it right after the game. To be completely honest, I found it a bit comical myself when I first saw it, (and I was) in a little bit of disbelief.”

The photo quickly spawned a meme, and McDaniel, who is engaged (sorry, ladies), made hearts swoon while gaining yards for the Fighting Irish.

The model moment wasn't an isolated incident, apparently, as he tweeted to Bleacher Report:

And his fiancee, Stephani Sterrett, doesn't mind all the ladies drooling over her man, thanks to his sudden Internet fame.

While she didn't want to go on camera in the Orange Room, she tweeted TODAY to say she's not letting go of McDaniel anytime soon.
