The baseball legend spoke with Matt earlier this year about his final season and the mark he's left on the game.
"It's awkward to even speak about legacy while you're still around," Jeter said at the time. "But time flies, in my head it's not 20 years. I think the legacy that matters most is that I've been able to affect other people's lives and impact them in a positive way."
As for specifics on his retirement plans, Jeter's recent interview with Brian Williams may offer some clues.
"I look forward to having a family," Jeter told Williams. "I just don't think, personally, I would have been able to juggle a family and my career at the same time."
