Expect big changes when "So You Think You Can Dance" returns for its ninth season. That's because an important part of the hoofer competition just got cut.
"SYTYCD" co-creator and judge Nigel Lythgoe took to his Twitter account Sunday night to explain the unexpected shakeup.
"#FOX have cancelled the results show so I will have to change the format of #SYTYCD," he wrote. "At least we have another season at the end of MAY."
Exactly what that means for the show is mystery for now, but whatever format changes Lythgoe has in store to make up for the lack of the weekly results episodes, he won't have long to plan for them. The show returns in May, but for Lythogoe and co., it really starts next week with the all-important selection process.
"Don't worry #SYTYCD fans," he tweeted shortly after breaking the news. "I'm thrilled we have a new (season). We'll do our best to find some great talent starting next week in Atlanta."
Until then, the "So You Think You Can Dance" bigwig wants to make one thing clear. Despite the unexpected results show cut, he holds no grudge against the network.
"I'm certainly not mad at FOX," Lythgoe added. "They have supported #SYTYCD FOR 9 seasons. With the help of Mike Darnell I think we have some great new ideas."
Fans will judge just how great those ideas are for themselves when newly revamped version of "So You Think You Can Dance" returns.
