Dr. Mildred "Millie" Dresselhaus died this week at the age of 86. She's remembered for her research into the basic properties of carbon, mapping out its electronic energy structure and finding new uses for it. Dresselhaus is also the first woman ever to win the National Medal of Science in Engineering.
