Video: Heavy rain and winds were the least of some residents’ worries after dozens of tornadoes struck parts of the Midwest, including Illinois, where there were several fatalities. NBC’s Dylan Dreyer reports.

Midwest residents captured these images of the severe weather system that left a deadly path of destruction across the region Sunday.

The system created dozens of tornadoes that leveled towns, killed at least six people and injured dozens of others.

Scott Gundy of Washington, Ill., said he found shards of his house 100 yards away.

“We’ll be looking for bits and pieces today,” he told TODAY’s Matt Lauer in an emotional interview on Monday.
