Could there be a feud brewing between “American Idol’s” recently booted rocker, James Durbin, and season eight runner-up Adam Lambert? If the recent public back and forth between the often compared ex-contestants is any indication, it sure seems that way.

During Durbin’s early days on “Idol,” Lambert supported the singer. But shortly before the metal man was sent packing, he changed his tune.

“(I’m) kind of over (James),” Lambert told the Hollywood Reporter. “I think he's got talent and passion 100 percent, but I feel like he's trying way too hard. Also, his niche is so limited with the metal. When he did that “Heavy Metal” song, James was note-perfect. He was on pitch, which is usually kind of an issue, and I think he sounded really good, but it felt like a copycat.”

While Durbin didn’t exactly swipe back, he did dismiss Lambert’s critical change of heart in an interview with MTV News.

"I was nothing (but) nice to that guy and you know, he decided to take it to a different level,” Durbin said. “Whatever."

According to MTV News, the rocker doesn’t believe Lambert’s comments swayed fans to turn away from him when it counted. In fact, during a Tuesday morning visit to TODAY, Durbin explained that he felt as if his “Idol” end was unavoidable simply because some things, including an “Idol” win, just seem too good to be true.

“Well, it seemed like a blessing can turn into a curse and a curse can turn into a blessing,” Durbin reflected. “You know, I felt like I had a perfect night the night before. It felt too good.”
