At her first solo appearance since giving birth three months ago, the Duchess of Cambridge, 31, turned heads at a charity sports event Friday where she played volleyball in a pair of skinny jeans and five-inch platform wedges.
Observers weren’t just noting her spiking techniques, however, but the taut tummy she flashed at one point while reaching up for the ball.
Although the accidental midriff reveal impressed (and drew gasps from) adults around the world, the young athletes playing beside Duchess Kate were far more impressed by her sense of style on the court.
"She was playing in heels. Whoever plays in heels is amazing,” 16-year-old volleyball player Grace Lazard told the Press Association.
The royal took part in the game as part of an Olympic Park workshop for SportsAid, a youth organization of which she is a patron. In addition to those Stuart Weitzman wedge heels, she also wore a navy jacket over a striped Ralph Lauren top and blue jeans while touring the facility and meeting with fencers and other athletes.
The sporting event was Kate’s first appearance alone, although she has been seen publicly several times since the July 22 birth of Prince George. Most recently, she and Prince William attended an awards dinner for the wildlife conservation charity, Tusk Trust.
Next week she will make headlines again at the Oct. 23 christening of Prince George. The royal family is expected to issue photographs from the private ceremony following the event.
A day later, the duchess also will host a charity gala at her newly renovated apartment in Kensington Palace. The reception and dinner will benefit 100 Women in Hedge Funds, a non-profit organization that counts the duke and duchess, as well as Prince Harry, among its patrons.
Duchess Kate drew attention for her postpartum physique from the moment she appeared in public with her new son the day after giving birth to him in a polka-dotted dress that clearly revealed her baby tummy.
