One week ago, Hoda Kotb launched her special Shine a Light campaign to raise money for pediatric cancer research. The program was spearheaded by an amazing video featuring a new, blended version of Sara Bareilles' "Brave" and Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors," and the response has been truly amazing — and truly brave.

"We were lucky that it worked," said Lauper during a visit to TODAY. "I didn't know it was going to work."

But after seeing the video, she wondered how anyone could ignore the message. "How could you say no to those kids?"

The stats? The video been viewed more than 886,000 times on YouTube and the campaign has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society.

Lauper tweeted about her appearance and offered thanks to every generous donor.
