Among the stars we lost in 2013 were those who left us with great bodies of work and those who we hoped to see so much more from in the coming years.
From the world of film, Peter O'Toole died on Dec. 14. Tributes poured in for the dashing British star of "Lawrence of Arabia," who at 81 had left behind an impressive resume of stage and screen credits. Just a couple of weeks earlier, fans were reeling from the news that Paul Walker, the handsome star of the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise, died in a fiery car crash on Nov. 30. He was just 40 years old.
Roger Ebert, the famed critic who for so many years pointed his thumb up or down at silver screen stars like O'Toole and Walker, passed away on April 4 at age 70.

Familiar faces of television who passed included the iconic Mouseketeer Annette Funicello (April 8 at 70); Jean Stapleton, the beloved Edith Bunker of "All in the Family" (May 31 at 90); another TV mom — "One Day at a Time" star Bonnie Franklin (March 1 at 69); and comedic legend Jonathan Winters (April 11 at 87). But the deaths of larger-than-life "Sopranos" star James Gandolfini (June 19 at 51) and the young and talented "Glee" actor Cory Monteith (July 13 at 31) shocked us out of the false hope that more of their work was still ahead of them.
We lost many makers of great music in 2013 as well, from the influential rock visionary Lou Reed (Oct. 27 at 71) to famed Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek (May 20 at 74). Country music alone said goodbye to three pillars of the genre — the legendary George Jones (April 26 at 81), crooner Slim Whitman (June 19 at 90) and Ray Price (Dec. 16 at 87). From the world of hip-hop, fans of the memorable 1990s pants-on-backwards duo Kriss Kross said goodbye to Chris Kelly, who was just 34 when he died on May 1.
