Why did Conan O'Brien ever leave New York City? Okay, there was that "Tonight Show" hosting thing that just didn't pan out. But he could have come back home once he had his TBS gig with "Conan."

Instead, New York City residents are just going to have to put up with the occasional drop-in. Recently, O'Brien was in town for a four-night run at the Beacon theater, celebrating his one-year anniversary at TBS, and wandering around the city doing things like lurking in the TODAY show crowd and taking a New York City citizen test from Mayor Bloomberg. But his antics for Thursday night's "Conan" -- including sending Triumph the Insult Comic Dog down to Occupy Wall Street and officiating at a gay wedding -- showed late night's favorite redhead back in full, edgy, funny form.

"All week I've wanted to visit the protesters myself, I just haven't had time," O'Brien told his audience, before cutting to a clip of the cigar-chomping rubber dog hand puppet interviewing demonstrators, visiting the drum circle ("what would a protest be without a drum circle, except terrible"), getting hit with pepper spray ("the secret is not to blink"), marching and chanting with protesters, going after the other side by talking to stockbrokers and generally being, well, hilariously insulting.

And then, to top off his visit to the Big Apple, O'Brien officiated a funny and poignant same-sex marriage between his costume designer Scott Cronick and Cronick's partner David Gorshein, complete with Jewish wedding chuppah ... and with Cronick being walked down the aisle by Bravo's Andy Cohen. "I now pronounce you husband and husband," said O'Brien, capping off a truly unique visit to New York City -- one that viewers are likely hoping won't require another full year to replicate.
