Performance packaging

Foundation comes in many forms, from bottle to balm, but portioning out the right amount and getting even application can be tricky. A cushy new trend in packaging, however, aims to help. Dr. Jart's BB Bounce Balm utilizes a fine mesh screen to help fight clumps and gobs. This particular formula is also little more opaque than most BB creams, offering extra coverage so it can be used in place of foundation ($48, Sephora.com).

If you're looking for an even quicker solution, Diorskin's Airflash spray foundation is pretty much as easy as it sounds. Packaged in an efficient, spraypaint style canister, just spritz, pat and go. The mist formula utilizes micro-diffusion technology so one sweep across your face is all you need ($62, Nordstrom.com). Sephora Collection's Perfection Mist is another smart, sprayable foundation that promises to deliver airbrush-like results. Since the pigments are so lightweight, you can build up to your desired coverage level ($28, Sephora.com).

Form for function

New patented "bundle" technology has enabled the design and unique shape of Artis Elite brushes by Matthew Waitesmith. The recently launched collection features horizontal ergonomic handles, meaning they won't obstruct your view in the mirror, thus helping improve your application. You can see exactly what you're placing product, be it eye shadow, concealer, bronzer, blush, etc. The brushes are also animal friendly and constructed from baby soft synthetic bristles called CosmeFibre. The icing on the cake? You can clean the brushes by simply stroking them against an antimicrobial pad ($18 & up, ArtisBrushes.com).

New view

How often have you listened intently and paid attention while a beauty pro helps you to create a new look, only to promptly forget when you get home to try it yourself. Thanks to a new venture, you could now press rewind and play back those steps. Yves Saint Laurent beauty's national makeup artists will wear Google Glass to record your makeup application, offering tips and then email you a before and after shot along with your video tutorial and a list of products/shades used. The program kicks off at Bloomingdale's 59th Street location in New York this week and will continue pop-up at flagship YSL beauty counters across the country, which will be announced on their Facebook page and Twitter.
