Where is that remote? Chances are, in your couch

If you've ever lost your one of your remote controls — really, who has just one anymore? — the first place you should check for it is in your couch, according to a study that pegs that spot as the magic black hole for remote controls half the time they're missing.

A Global Remote Control Trends Study done by Logitech — which would rather you consolidate with one of their universal remotes (see image to the right) — shows that nearly half of all living rooms globally have four or more remotes and in that a survey of thousands "around the world," habitually misplaced remotes was one consequence of having so many devices.

For instance, my uncle's house in Thailand has no less than 40 remotes. I'm not kidding.

In a blog post by Scott Harrington, Logitech director of product marketing (remote control business unit), the big reveal was that nearly half (49 percent) of those folks found the remote control somewhere in their couch.

The distant ties for second place, with 8 percent each: The bathroom (ewwww, really?) and a dresser drawer (guess it really can be attached to the hand, like a phone!).

About 4 percent left it in the fridge or freezer, most likely taking it on a journey to make a snack for more channel surfing. Finally, a perpetually chaotic household or absent-minded TV clicker addict may account for the 2 percent who find it in their cars or somewhere outside.

After reading this, I know one thing for sure: I might not be so quick to pick up other people's remote controls in the future. You never know where it's been!
