Matt Lynch took a road trip this past Easter to Broken Hill, an isolated mining town the Outback of New South Wales, Australia.
Not far away are the Menindee Lakes, a collection of short-lived freshwater lakes that are fed by the Darling River when in flood. Recent rains had turned the desert into an oasis, Lynch told TODAY.com.
"The shot was taken from a couple of camp chairs myself and my girlfriend had set up beside the lake to watch the sunset over a glass of wine," he said.
