Real person in GoDaddy Super Bowl ad: 'I quit'

Feb. 2, 2014 at 7:46 PM ET

A real woman just used a Super Bowl ad to quit her job.

Gwen, 36, a machine engineer who builds puppets on the side, starred in a GoDaddy ad that served as her resignation letter. In the ad, she used one of the puppets she built to mouth the words to her boss, and to over 100 million estimated viewers, "I quit."

Right after the ad aired, she emailed her boss her two weeks notice, said GoDaddy. The connection to the brand is that she used GoDaddy's website builder service to create her puppet-selling site.

The identity of the woman quitting her job was one of the few real surprises of the Super Bowl this year, even though the domain name registration company had teased an anonymous version of the clip the week before the game.

The ad marks a further departure for the company which has been known for showing up at the Super Bowl with ads critics say debased women.

Watch TODAY Monday morning as Dean will chat about why she quit her job in such a public way.
