Unless it's time for the Rapture again, I doubt that the world will end if you forget to send a text message. But that doesn't mean that there won't be hurt feelings, confusion, irritated foot tapping, or tears if you fail to acknowledge something important.

So how do you prevent the fallout that can come from this particular communication faux pas? By scheduling your text messages, of course.

An iPhone app called Txtot — short for "text on time" — will let you do just that. All you need to do is enter a phone number or pick a name from your contacts, select a date and time in the future, and tap out your mission critical message.

Once the selected date and time come around, a notification will pop up on your screen and txtot will open up a new text message with all the things you've entered ready to go. All you need to do is actually hit the "Send" button. (Or not! After all, you have the opportunity to edit or just plain cancel the text message.)

Txtot is free and available in the Apple App Store now.
