Buying in the O.C. might have been cheaper.
Actress Mischa Barton’s Beverly Hills villa is in default. Despite several attempts to sell or rent it out, Barton’s now $100,000 behind on mortgage payments, according to property records.
As first reported by TMZ, the former “O.C.” star got in too deep on the eight-bedroom, 11-bath estate she bought in 2005. She paid $6.4 million for the mansion near the height of the real estate bubble — and also near the height of her fame.
The British actress rose to stardom in films such as “Notting Hill” and “The Sixth Sense” and then won Teen Choice Awards in 2004, 2005 and 2006 for her role on the TV drama “The O.C.”
Since then, her career has taken a tumble, and 2670 Bowmont Dr. quickly became out of her reach. She listed it in 2010 for $8.695 million, leaving it on the market for about a year. Then she listed it for rent for $35,000 a month, but when that was unsuccessful, she listed it for sale again, still at $8.695 million.
The 7,607-square-foot Spanish-style home is gated, with views of Catalina Island. It has a glamorous formal dining room, a huge master suite with a fireplace and a beautiful entry with a marble staircase. The property includes a nearly 3,000-square-foot guesthouse, a pool and spa, and private decks.
The listing is held by Joe Babajian of Rodeo Realty.
