Durex condoms tells World Cup players "don't fake it"

"Faking it" is a major problem in two of the world's most beloved pastimes: lovemaking, and playing soccer.

In soccer, players take dives and pretend to get injured, hoping that they'll trick the referee with their theatrics and get a foul called in their favor.

In the bedroom, participants might have any number of reasons for "simulation," but mostly they're probably trying to prevent the game from going into extra time.

It makes sense then that Durex Condoms would weigh in during the 2014 World Cup with a public service announcement requesting that we all "don't fake it." Neither on the soccer pitch, nor a softer field of play.

The cheeky ad shows a series of players taking the most ridiculous dives imaginable. At one point, a girl brushes back her hair and a guy standing near her recoils as if he just took an elbow to the face. In another, one player dribbles the ball away from another and the second player leaps into the air as if stabbed in the back by a cattle prod.

To bump up the comedic factor, this all happens in purposefully overdrawn slow motion, underscored with a syrupy Italian aria.

Let's hope the World Cup participants watch this ad on the sidelines and get inspired to keep it real this year.
