The dog days of August are definitely upon us. A lot of us are taking time off for vacation. And for those of us still in the office, it seems there is a lot of time spent peeking at Olympics results.
As Allison Linn wrote a few days ago, not a whole lot gets done during August. And that’s not such a bad thing. A little slacking off can make workers a lot more productive in the long run, and may even leave room in the day to come up with some great, new ideas, many experts say.
One reader noted: “August is a slow month for accountants. Not much to do besides catch up on Olympic news.”
In other workplace news, it appears that having a potty mouth is not good for your career. According to a study, 57 percent of employers are less likely to promote someone who swears at the office. Nearly 54 percent of our readers say that using blue language is OK … on occasion.
And finally, there is this story about clipping your nails at work. Gross!
A recent survey found nearly half of those surveyed are offended when co-workers clip or bite their nails.
Our readers had a lively conversation about co-worker pet peeves. This comment stood out: “I had a client who believed he should show his superiority in meetings by removing his shoes, putting his feet on the desk and farting.”
Classy.
