19,000 Crate and Barrel lamps recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that it's recalling more than 19,000 Crate and Barrel hanging pendant lamps due to fire and shock hazards.

The lamps, made in China, were sold between January 2009 and July 2013 and retailed for $149 to $249. The recall includes Crate and Barrel Finley Collection pendant lamps with a white or wheat linen large or small drum, or rectangular, lamp shades.

The Washington, D.C.-based agency said that lamps can be connected incorrectly because the wires' polarity labels can be mislabeled or fall off. It said that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamp and contact the retailer for a replacement lamp of equal value or a full refund, including shipping and $100 reimbursement for charges incurred in removing and replacing recalled lamps by using a licensed electrician.

The CPSC said that Crate and Barrel has received four reports of lamps shorting out, including minor property damage and a minor burn

Consumers can contact Crate and Barrel at (800) 451-8217 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CDT every day or online at www.Crateandbarrel.com and click on Safety Recall at the bottom of the page for more information.
