Video: We try to teach our kids to be fair, but they also need to know that life doesn’t always give you what you want. Dr. Jennifer Hartstein and CaféMom’s Ericka Souter explain about how to talk to your children about fairness give them a realistic view of the world without jading them.

“That’s not fair!” These words have been uttered on virtually every playground at one time or another. Whether a child doesn’t get a trophy at the T-ball banquet or they don’t get into their dream college, often times these words are what we come back to.

From a young age we’re taught how to play fair…but as we grow up, we learn that things don’t always go our way, everything isn’t always balanced and that life isn't always so kind.

Should we teach our kids this life lesson at an early age to spare them from disappointment later in life?

We want to know what you think.
